The Raven

Opening Nationwide April 27, 2012

Directed by James McTeigue (V for Vendetta, Ninja Assassin)

Starring John Cusack as famed poet EDGAR ALLAN POE (Being John Malkovich, 2012)
Luke Evans as INSPECTOR EMMETT FIELDS (Immortals, The Three Musketeers, soon to be seen in The Hobbit)

Alice Eve as EMILY (Sex and the City 2, soon to be seen in Men In Black III and the Star Trek sequel)
Brendan Gleeson as COLONEL HAMILTON (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, In Bruges, The Guard) & Oliver Jackson-Cohen as CANTRELL (Faster)

In this gritty thriller, Edgar Allan Poe (John Cusack) joins forces with a young Baltimore detective (Luke Evans) to hunt down a mad serial killer who’s using Poe’s own works as the basis in a string of brutal murders. Directed by James McTeigue, the film also stars Alice Eve, Brendan Gleeson and Oliver Jackson-Cohen.

When a mother and daughter are found brutally murdered in 19th century Baltimore, Detective Emmett Fields (Luke Evans) makes a startling discovery: the crime resembles a fictional murder described in gory detail in the local newspaper—part of a collection of stories penned by struggling writer and social pariah Edgar Allan Poe. But even as Poe is questioned by police, another grisly murder occurs, also inspired by a popular Poe story.

Realizing a serial killer is on the loose using Poe’s writings as the backdrop for his bloody rampage, Fields enlists the author’s help in stopping the attacks. But when it appears someone close to Poe may become the murderer’s next victim, the stakes become even higher and the inventor of the detective story calls on his own powers of deduction to try to solve the case before it’s too late.

HORROR AND COMEDY COMBINE FOR BAFS 4TH FILM

The BACK ALLEY FILM SERIES will screen it’s fourth film on October 20th at the CAROLINA CINEMAS CROWNPOINT on 9630 Monroe Rd. at 7:30 PM

TUCKER & DALE VS. EVIL, released by MAGNET, won the 2010 South by Southwest (SXSW) Audience Choice Award and was an Official Selection at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival.  The film takes the typical “college kids go into the woods and bad things happen” and completely turns the horror sub-genre completely upside down.

The story begins with two friends, Tucker (Alan Tudyk of Serenity, Knocked Up and currently ABC’s Suburgatory) and Dale (Tylrer Labine of the CW drama Reaper and the recent The Rise of the Plane of the Apes) as two best friends that have pulled their money together to get a dilapidated mountain cottage and turn it into their vacation home.  After a group of preppy college kids set up camp near the duo, they rescue one of the coeds after the rest of her group is scared off by the antics of the two fun loving hillbillies.  The journey that follows is a total misunderstanding and leads to an ever growing body count on screen, and growing hysterics from the viewers.

The screenplay of TUCKER & DALE was written by University of Southern California Graduates Eli Craig and Morgan Jurgenson back in 2005 and spent some time making the rounds of studio development executives in the LA area.  While all that read the screenplay loved the story, they didn’t know how to convince their employers to finance it.  After a long period of waiting and an abundance of meetings and pitches, Thomas Augsberger of Eden Rock Media and Deepak Nayar of Kintop pictures, teamed up to help the fresh graduates turn their screenplay into an actual budgeted production.
With funds in place, the film took up on the west side of Calgary in the Province of Alberta Canada in the summer of 2009.  With weather being a large challenge, the cast and crew survived the frequent rain and thunderstorms to wrap shooting in just over a month.

BAFS is also proud to announce that prior to the screening of TUCKER & DALE, the Charlotte Film Community will screen the winning short film of their most recent MADE IN CHARLOTTE film competition.  With the theme being “PHOBIAS”, BAFS and CFC  are proud to have a great chance to showcase some of Charlottes local talent.  Co-Founder and PR Manager Juli Hood Emmons describes the Charlotte Film Community as a “Group of film lovers with the common goal of meeting together to create film and grow awareness of film in the Charlotte area.” When asked about teaming up with BAFS to screen their shorts every few months during the series Emmons stated “BAFS is doing an amazing job of bringing quality films to the area and we (CFC) are so excited to be included as a part of that.”  More info about the Charlotte Film Community can be found on their website at www.charlottefilmcommunity.org.

Hatchet 2

In Theaters unrated and uncut on October 1st nationwide!

Adam Green's Hatchet II picks up at the exact moment that 2006's Hatchet ends, wherein the quiet but hot-tempered Marybeth (Danielle Harris) is in a small boat in the Louisiana swamps, screaming for her life as she tries to free herself from the clutches of the deformed, swamp-dwelling killer Victor Crowley (Kane Hodder). Crowley has murdered Marybeth's family and other fellow vacationers who had come together on a tourist excursion in the swamplands outside of New Orleans.

Marybeth escapes from Crowley and manages to make it back to civilization, where she once again encounters voodoo shop proprietor Reverend Zombie (Tony Todd), who had helped to arrange Marybeth and company's earlier, ill-fated tour of the area. To help Marybeth and also serve his own secret agenda, Reverend Zombie recruits a hardened pack of hunters to head back into the swamp to seek revenge on Victor Crowley.

Zombies Attack Charlotte!

What happens when you mash together 300 volunteer zombies, a $10,000 budget and an “end of the world, romantic-zombie-action-musical” screenplay? The 2009 Australian indie film I am Bish, currently buzzing through the international film festival circuit with the appropriate tagline, “Just because it’s the end of the world doesn’t mean we can’t have a few laughs.”

The film, directed by David Bishop, tells the story of a film student (Bish) shooting a documentary in his hometown of Perth, Australia, which has secretly been chosen as the site of a joint U.S./Australian defense project. When something goes massively wrong, a neutron wave blast wipes out the community and transforms any remaining survivors into zombies.

The film is a spoof of the 2007 movie I am Legend, starring Will Smith. However, instead of a larger-than-life action hero as the “last man on earth,” Bish is just an average guy trying to survive in a zombie-infested Western Australia. I am Bish has become an Official Selection of 5 International Film Festivals, including the Edmonton International Film Festival, the Southern Winds Film Festival, the Riverside International Film Festival, the Detroit Windsor International Film Festival and the upcoming Charlotte Film Festival. The film has also won 4 awards, including the Golden Palm Award at Mexico International Film Festival, The Silver Lei Award at Honolulu International Film Festival, the Award of Merit at The Indie Fest, and the Award of Excellence at the Twin Rivers Media Festival.

I am Bish is one of more than 60 films that will be showcased at this year’s Film Festival. The Fifth Annual Charlotte Film Festival will be held Sept. 20-26 at two locations – Epicenter Theaters and Regal Park Terrace, both in Charlotte. I am Bish will screen at 11:15 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25 at Regal Park Terrace.

Hatchet II: Released unrated nationwide October 1st

Dark Sky Films, a division of MPI Media Group, announced today that in anticipation of the upcoming Halloween horror movie season, Adam Green's HATCHET II will be distributed in theaters across the country beginning Oct 1. The film will be released without an MPAA rating, marking the widest release of an unrated genre film in more than 25 years.

AMC Theatres, under its AMC independent program, will be exhibiting HATCHET II in the top 20 markets across the country. Vitagraph Films is serving as theatrical distributor.

The announcement regarding the HATCHET II release was made jointly by Adam Green with MPI Media Group's Senior Vice President of Acquisitions Greg Newman.

A ferociously fun tribute to the old-school horror sensation slasher movies of the 80's, HATCHET II is the follow-up to the popular original film, which was released theatrically in 2007 and became a sleeper-hit, gaining a wide following on DVD. The cast of HATCHET II features a cavalcade of horror movie icons including Danielle Harris (HALLOWEEN) and Kane Hodder (FRIDAY THE 13th), reprising his role as serial killer Victor Crowley. Also starring are Tony Todd (CANDYMAN) and R.A. Mihailoff (TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE).

HATCHET II is having its world premiere this week in London at Fright Fest, the UK's premiere horror and fantasy film festival.

Director Adam Green said, "Having a movie as graphically over the top as HATCHET II come out in major theatres unrated is an absolute dream come true -- not only for the genre fans but for the entire make-up effects crew who normally have to watch their amazing achievements get sliced and diced for theatrical release. This is an important event for the horror genre and I hope the real horror fans support HATCHET II and help change the way genre films are released theatrically from this day forward. Kudos to Dark Sky Films and AMC theaters for truly honoring the spirit of old school American horror and doing this right. Gorehounds won't know what hit them!"

Dark Sky Films' Newman added, "We are thrilled that audiences will not have to wait for a director's cut or unrated version of Adam Green's HATCHET II. On October 1st fans will have the opportunity to see Hatchet II in theaters exactly as it was intended to be seen: full-on, uncut and uncensored! We hope that this unrated release of HATCHET II marks a new trend in providing an uncompromised theatrical experience for genre film lovers nationwide."

"Our AMC independent program embraces diverse storytelling of all types," said AMC Theatres' Vice President, Specialty & Alternative Content, Nikkole Dneson-Randolph. "Bringing a story like HATCHET II to our guests is a natural fit during this time of year and we're excited to share the filmmakers' vision on-screen in its intended state."
