3-day Workshop to be held in Wilmington September 24-26


On September 24, 25, 26, Tom Kane is bringing a three day film production workshop to Wilmington. Kane has had a long and distinguished career in the Film and Television industry. As a Producer, Production Manager, and Assistant Director, his clients have included Twentieth Century Fox, Miramax Films, Columbia Pictures, Warner Bros., ABC Motion Pictures, Universal Pictures, Turner Network Television, CBS, NBC, ABC, and Hallmark Entertainment.



Kane’s Film Credits include: Prizzi’s Honor, Raging Bull, Kramer vs. Kramer, The Flamingo Kid, Taxi Driver, The Stepford Wives, and Crossfire Trail.



Since 1984, Kane has taught film and video production to hundreds of students from around the world. He created “The Line Producer, Assistant Director & Unit Production Manager Workshop” for The Maine Media Workshops in Rockport, Maine, where he has instructed for 13 years.



The workshop will teach individuals how to successfully plan, organize and manage a film or video production. Participants will break down a feature script, create a shooting schedule, production board, and day-out-of-days. They will also go on a location scout to learn the professional approach to detail for each location. This workshop is ideal for aspiring producers, production managers, assistant directors, screenwriters, actors, and anyone wishing to explore a career in film and video production.



Newcomers in the industy are welcome and discounts are available for students (20%) as well as those already in the industry (10%).

Cameron Art Museum - The Cameron Art Museum hosts regular film screenings in addition to other interdisciplinary programs. With a broad array of subject matter and post-film commentary and discussion, the evening is typically a stimulating one.

Cinematique of Wilmington - With the dearth of "art-house films" in local theaters, the Cinematique series offers film buffs an opportunity to catch movies that sidestep the multiplex. Presented through the combined efforts of WHQR and Thalian Hall, this series includes classic films, foreign flicks and limited-release gems. Cinematique often features speakers and other activities to coincide with the screenings. Movies are typically shown at Thalian Hall at 7:30 PM, Wednesday through Sunday through April 2010, when the schedule will return to Monday through Wednesday. Admission is $7. If the latest Hollywood blockbuster isn't to your liking, there are better films afoot at Cinematique.

Lumia Theater at UNCW - This facility is an excellent addition to UNCW's cultural climate, offering students and residents alike an eclectic smorgasbord of cinema. From current theatrical blockbusters to quaint and unusual art-house flicks, Lumina Theater has something for every taste. UNCW students get an excellent deal, paying only $2 for new blockbuster films. Non-student tickets are $4 for blockbusters and new independent films, a bargain compared to the multiplex. Other screenings are often free, depending on their nature or whether or not another university department has sponsored the film. With a capacity of 358 stadium seats and 9 wheelchair spaces and a full Dolby Digital surround-sound system, the theater is capable of screening 35mm prints, DVDs, and other digital media. Private parties may inquire about utilizing the space for their functions by calling (910) 962-7971. Lumina Theater is located on the first floor of the Fisher Student Center.

Thalian Hall Center for the Performing Arts - From its weekly Cinematique series to hosting the annual Cucalorus Film Festival and the Final Cut Film Festival, Thalian Hall has grown far beyond just an ordinary theater for live performances. With Wilmington's growth as a filmmaking capital, the hall has expanded its reach to include top-notch films typically unavailable in local multiplex cinema locations. The main stage's grand appearance further enhances enjoyment of the screenings and makes seeing a movie at Thalian a fabulous experience. With concessions ranging from popcorn and candy to sodas, gourmet coffee, premium beers and fine wines, a night at the hall can be an ideal date.
